As the colder weather approaches, it’s important to ensure that the outside of your home, your roof included, is prepared. Here is a list of things that should be done as we move forward into winter:

  1. Inspect your roof for any spots that might need some TLC. This could be anything from uneven roof surfaces, damaged shingles, etc. While you can inspect on your own, we encourage you to hire a professional roofer, like JnR Gutters, Inc.
  2. The cooler weather brings an increase in debris (twigs, leaves, etc.) in your gutters so make sure you are checking your gutters. Blocked gutters can cause water to get clogged, drip over the edge and effect the ground below. The clogged water can also cause damage to your roof so it’s important to clear your gutters of debris.
  3. Colder weather can bring on insulation issues with your home’s windows. If you find that your windows are a bit drafty, a good solution is caulking them.
  4. Ice can create more damage for any existing cracks in your driveway or sidewalk. To increase the life of your pavement, use a filler and sealant to protect it.
  5. Before you store any of your yard equipment (lawn mower or leaf blower) make sure to clean them to ensure they will be in good working condition, come spring.
